Information
Application: CNG has similar advantages to natural gas: High calorific value and Octane index, complete combustion, so it can reduce emissions and pollution to the environment. CNG occupies only about 1/200 volume of natural gas at standard conditions (15oC, 1 atmosphere) that is possibly stored and transported over long distance with large volume.
Currently, CNG is widely used all over the world as an alternative fuel for gasoline in vehicle engines. The use of CNG engines will reduce toxic emissions such as 90-97% CO, 25% CO2, 35-60% NO and almost no dust compared to gasoline engines. CNG is completely combusted without scaling in the combustion chamber and carburetor. This helps to improve its performance, prolongs maintenance cycle and increases equipment life. On the economic view, the CNG price is cheaper than gasoline from 10% to 30% and relatively stable, thus increasingly attractive to consumers using CNG as a fuel for vehicles.
In addition, CNG is also used as a fuel for industrial consumers far from gas pipelines.
In 2011, two plants of Vietnam CNG Joint Stock Company and Southern Liquefied Petroleum Gas Joint Stock Company (PV Gas South) of PetroVietnam Gas Corporation located in Phu My produced about 110,000 tons of CNG (equivalent to 120 million m3 of gas per year) to supply CNG as a transportation fuel and for industrial customers in Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Dong Nai and Binh Duong provinces.
